Work as a PSW

What is a PSW?

A PSW in home and community care works with individuals and families in their home to provide help with daily tasks such as bathing, getting dressed, eating, doing exercises, preparing meals and helping patients get around.

As a PSW, your compassion is a strength that will have a lasting effect on the patients you meet. Whether it’s helping with bathing, getting dressed, eating, doing exercises, preparing meals or helping patients get around, your career as a PSW is all about practicing kindness through care.

As a home and community care PSW, you build strong relationships with patients, anticipate their needs, encourage them on bad days, and provide the support they need to be independent and empowered at home.

Why become a PSW?

Make a difference in your community

Wherever you live in western Ontario, there are people in your community who need your help. You can help maintain the health of your community with a career as a PSW.

Helping people is in your DNA

Now is the chance to pursue a career where you get to help people and provide critical support to keep people where they are the happiest – at home. With opportunities to earn your PSW certificate in as little as 6 months, you can start helping people sooner you think.

Create meaningful connections

No two days are the same. And every day is rewarding. Take pride in knowing that you make a difference in someone’s life. Without you, many people wouldn’t be able to maintain independent, empowered living.

Have a lasting impact

Providing critical support to people in their own homes can be life-changing for patients. Your care and kindness during a difficult time will be remembered by patients and families forever.
